1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring
The Carrera RS 2.7 holds a defining place in Porsche history as the homologation model that introduced the Carrera name to the 911. This 1973 example, chassis 9113600568, is an M472 Touring finished in its original Viper Green, code 3838, over black leatherette with pin-perforated seat centers. It is one of just 73 examples documented in Viper Green within the second production series, and one of 1,308 Touring-specification cars produced.
The car was invoiced through Porsche dealer Glöckler of Frankfurt/Main on February 1, 1973 and first registered on February 20, 1973. Factory equipment includes M258 headrests, M432 Hella auxiliary long-range lights, M440 antenna and front speaker, M549 three-point static seat belts, M571 rear fog light, and M651 electric windows.
Power comes from its matching-numbers 2.7-liter Type 911/83 mechanically fuel-injected flat-six, engine number 6630589, paired with its original Type 915/08 five-speed manual gearbox, number 7830566. Factory output was rated at 210 PS.
Its European history is supported by an extensive documentation file tracing the car from Germany through Luxembourg and France. One documented French ownership lasted nearly 24 years, from June 1989 until April 2013, when the car returned to Germany.
Between 2013 and 2014, the RS underwent a comprehensive €70,000 restoration in Germany. The work included complete disassembly, stripping and refinishing of the body in its original Viper Green, rebuilding of the interior, renewal of rubber, seals and glass, and overhaul of the suspension, steering and braking systems. Both the engine and Type 915 gearbox were fully rebuilt, including the clutch, before final assembly and German Oldtimer inspection.
Following completion, TÜV Rheinland inspected the car in October 2014 and found no defects, while also granting German Oldtimer certification. In 2018, DEKRA Classic Services performed a further condition appraisal, assigning the car a grade of 1- and again identifying engine 6630589 and gearbox 7830566 as the factory-original units.
The car's identity was examined again in January 2023 through an independent forensic inspection by VIN-PRINT / Rennsport Classics Ltd. Using macro photography, magneto-optical analysis and digital micrometry, the examination verified the chassis plate, stamped chassis number, hidden production number and engine identification as genuine and original to chassis 9113600568, with no evidence of number alteration or substitution. The inspection also identified thin-gauge body construction and RS-specific chassis reinforcements consistent with a genuine Carrera RS shell.
The car was imported to the United States in February 2023, with its chassis number documented throughout the customs and freight paperwork. The accompanying file includes factory records, European registration history, restoration contracts and invoices, TÜV and DEKRA certification, forensic authentication and U.S. import documentation.
The documents also note several later service or replacement items, including wheels with later date codes, a later multi-purpose gauge and horn button, and rear shocks sourced from a 3.2 Carrera. The car was originally delivered with comfort seats and headrests rather than factory sport seats.
Finished in one of the most distinctive colors offered on the Carrera RS 2.7, chassis 9113600568 combines matching-numbers mechanicals, documented European provenance, a comprehensive restoration and unusually detailed authentication of its original RS chassis.
